- Toyota Safety Sense Standard on all trim levels
- Updated infotainment system includes 8-inch touchscreen
- Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility
- New instrument panel with 4.2-inch display
- Smart key with push-button start standard on most models
- Two additional rear USB ports
We wouldn’t call the updates to the 2020 Toyota 4Runner a mid-cycle refresh since the last time it was redesigned was in 2009, but the safety features and updated touchscreen and Smartphone connectivity are crucial new features that bring a dated 4Runner more up to speed with its competition. While pricing hasn’t yet been announced we expect it will be slightly more than the current $35,310 price tag for the 2019 model.
What new safety features are available on the 2020 Toyota 4Runner?
One of the most important upgrades for the Toyota 4Runner is the addition of Toyota’s Safety Sense (TSS) package of safety features as standard across all trim levels.
TSS includes features such alerts as pre-collision warnings with pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts, including a sway alert that will suggest tired drivers pull over for a break, automatic high beam headlights and high-speed dynamic cruise control. With competition from the likes of Honda who’ve included their suite of safety features in all their cars for a few years now, Toyota is finally leveling the playing field.
How is the Smartphone integration on the 2020 Toyota 4Runner?
Toyota was one of the last hold outs to incorporate both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in their vehicles, but they’ve finally gotten on board. Both systems are available in the 4Runner as well as Amazon’s Alexa compatibility.
Not only will you be able to connect your Smartphone, but you’ll be able to see its integration better with a new 8-inch touchscreen that’s standard across all trim levels on the 2020 4Runner. Graphics are sharper than the previous model, but the resolution from the surround view cameras isn’t as impressive as that of other competitors.
What else is new on the 2020 4Runner?
This body-on-frame hold out also gets an updated instrument panel with a larger screen for improved visibility and smart key with push button start comes standard on most but not all trim levels. Additionally, there are two USB ports on the back of the center console for rear passengers to charge their handheld devices.
For those interested in the TRD off-road trim levels an upgraded kinetic dynamic suspension system is available that includes increased wheel travel at slower speeds making for better crawling capabilities. On road that same system improves handling especially in the corners.
When will the 2020 Toyota 4Runner go on sale?
The official on-sale date has not yet been announced, but it’s likely the truck will arrive this fall.
