The all-new Toyota Prius AWD-e starts at just $28,990 MSRP, featuring innovative technology that offers superior control in rain and snow while maintaining impressive fuel efficiency

TORONTO, ON – February 1, 2019 – Canadians already love the cleaner performance and remarkable fuel efficiency of the Toyota Prius – the world’s most popular gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle. Now, Toyota is giving drivers new reasons to embrace the icon of futuristic motoring, as the 2019 Prius lineup introduces an innovative all-new AWD-e system that boosts control when the weather turns foul. To celebrate, Toyota Canada is offering the 2019 Prius lineup – in front wheel drive and all-wheel-drive editions – at starting MSRPs that make Prius hard to resist.

“We’re enhancing all Prius models with additional features and fresh styling for 2019 – but the big news is the combination of Prius hybrid performance and Toyota’s state of the art electric all-wheel-drive system – AWD-e,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Canadians love the added confidence of all-wheel-drive and this year, the Prius becomes the first hybrid passenger car in the country to offer power and control at all four corners. Best of all, we are offering the Prius AWD-e at a surprisingly affordable price – so much so, that we anticipate all-wheel-drive models will account for almost two-thirds of our Prius liftback sales this year.”

The 2019 Prius is built around the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) – a design and engineering system that closely integrates body and powertrain development to deliver bolder styling, better handling and efficiency, and superior comfort and safety.

For 2019, all Prius models feature newly refined front and rear body styling, including revised headlamps and tail lamps, along with new, grade-specific wheel designs and two new available colours: Supersonic Red and Electric Storm Blue. The 2019 Prius maintains its sharp silhouette, with a wind-cheating shape that contributes to its remarkable fuel efficiency: just 4.4 L / 100 km for the FWD models, and 4.7 L / 100 km for the AWD-e models. (City/Highway combined.)

Inside, every 2019 Prius receives a fresh look with new, black accents through the cabin, including the steering wheel and centre console. Notably, all models offer impressive interior space, with room for 1,855 L of cargo when the 60/40 split rear seats are folded: That’s more than in some small SUVs and most full-size sedans!

Inside and out, the 2019 Prius is a high-tech wonder – yet designed for ease of use. All models feature dual 4.2” full-colour multi-information displays which offer up information such as the Energy Monitor, Hybrid System Indicator and Eco Score, Eco Savings Record, Drive Monitor, Climate Control, driver support systems, information and entertainment system content, navigation support, and more. All models include a touch-screen display audio system with advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity for portable electronics, Siri Eyes Free, and more.

Under the hood, every 2019 Prius is built around a Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive featuring a 1.8L four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, high-capacity storage batteries and sophisticated power management system. The Prius FWD features a high-torque electric motor engaged on the front axle and Lithium Ion storage battery.

The new Prius AWD-e models feature a newly-developed Nickel-Metal Hydride battery designed to provide excellent performance in cold-weather conditions, plus high-torque electric motors on both axles. These motors deliver on-demand all-wheel-drive performance, and the AWD system is designed to automatically revert to FWD performance when it’s not needed to maximize fuel efficiency.

Every 2019 Prius also expresses Toyota’s leadership in safety systems, headlined by Toyota Safety Sense P. This bundle of active safety technologies enhances driver capabilities to help avoid accidents or mitigate their effects. It includes the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Full Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Other safety systems include a vehicle proximity notification system to help alert pedestrians and cyclists when the Prius is operating in electric vehicle mode, the Toyota Star Safety System, eight air bags, a back-up camera, active front headrests with whiplash protection, and reliable LED lighting – including headlamps, daytime running lights, rear combination lamps and high-mount stop lamp.
