Introduction
Toyota sells two distinctly different versions of the Yaris. If you want a sedan choose the Yaris iA, which is designed, engineered, tuned, and assembled by Mazda in Japan. If you want a hatchback choose the Yaris, which is not a Mazda whatsoever and is built in France.
This preview is about the hatchback version of the 2018 Yaris, which gets a very minor makeover. The car continues in 3-door and 5-door body styles and in L, LE, and sporty SE trim.

Exterior Features
All versions of the 2018 Yaris hatchback get revised front styling, while in back the car receives changes designed to make it look wider. They include horizontal taillight elements that extend into the hatch and a reworked bumper with reflectors embedded into the lower corners.
Interior Features
A tilt steering wheel is now standard on all trim levels of the 2018 Yaris and includes audio controls. All versions also have the sportier instrumentation that is included for the SE trim level. Otherwise, the Yaris is the same as the 2017 model.
Optional Features
By upgrading to LE trim, buyers receive a standard automatic transmission, 15-in. aluminum wheels, cruise control, power exterior mirrors, remote keyless entry, and upgraded interior trim.
The Yaris SE has a sportier appearance thanks to a unique grille treatment, rear spoiler, projector-beam headlights, LED running lights, fog lights, and 16-in. aluminum wheels with dark accents and a machined surface. The driver’s seat includes a manual height adjuster and the Yaris SE has black sport fabric seats and leather wrapped around the steering wheel and shift knob.
Under the Hood
Every 2018 Yaris is equipped with a 106-horsepower, 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. The L and the SE have a 5-speed manual gearbox, with a 4-speed automatic transmission optional. The Yaris LE includes the automatic as standard equipment.
In order to substantiate its position as the “sporty” Yaris, the SE also gets rear disc brakes, stiffer suspension, and lower-profile 16-in. tires. Regardless of the trim level and transmission, fuel economy ranges from about 30 mpg city to about 36 mpg highway.
Safety
Notably, the 2018 Yaris is equipped with a basic package of Toyota Safety Sense technologies. They include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning system, and automatic high-beam headlights. Additionally, this car has 9 air bags, including a knee air bag.
Technology
For 2018, the Yaris features improved Entune infotainment systems. In the Yaris L and LE, the system includes a 6.1-in. touch-screen display, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, quick-charge USB port, voice-recognition technology, and more.
The Yaris SE has a new, larger 7-in. touch-screen display, and this version of Entune includes satellite radio and a Scout-connected navigation app.
