The 2017 Toyota Highlander had been launched last March at the New York Auto Show and is now available in the market getting positive feedbacks. Although the 2017 Toyota Highlander gets very little changes in its exterior and interior look – getting a more aggressive front end, it is one beyond it that will impress you. Check out our review of the Highlander.

Standout 2017 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The 2017 Toyota Highlander now offers a hybrid version like all Toyota models. It stands out from the rest and remains the only three-row hybrid crossover utility vehicle sold in the U.S. today. We are talking about a huge hybrid SUV that offers space for up to eight passengers and it is a key US market product. No competition at all.

The big news is that its engine is more powerful than ever with 3.5-liter V6 direct injection associated with a new automatic gearbox eight-speed. In this case, the total power is boosted from 280hp of last year’s version to 306hp this year, that instead of the automatic transmission torque converter, use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) making it more fuel efficient than ever. The base Highlander Hybrid LE is now rated at 30 mpg city, 28 highway, for a combined rating of 29 mpg, one mpg higher than last year.

First Stop-Start Car of Toyota

At first look, the 2017 Toyota Highlander doesn’t have a lot of changes to offer but something special is happening under the hood as Toyota installed a new technology called the stop-start for the Highlander so now it has the ability to automatically shut off the engine while the vehicle isn’t moving.

When the Highlander is not moving, take for example at a stop light, the stop-start system will automatically shut off the engine. After shutting the engine off, the stop-start system is still able to provide electrical power to an equipped Highlander for two-to-three minutes. Just enough power to get the engine started the engine when the vehicle starts to move.

Other automakers already have this stop-start system, however, for Toyota, this is a new thing and the Highlander is the very first car to receive it. It is said that more Toyota vehicles will follow starting from the company’s larger vehicles – SUVs, CUVs, and trucks – as these are the ones to benefit the most out of it.

Last but not the least, Toyota didn’t forget the safety features as it is their trademark for all their cars. The 2017 Toyota Highlander will be very well equipped with security. It will feature automatic braking, lane departure indicator, protection system run over pedestrians or adaptive cruise control, making it the perfect safe vehicle for the family.
