2016 Toyota Tacoma Named Best All-Weather Midsize Truck

Add best winter truck to the Toyota Tacoma’s many list of awards.

The New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA) named the 2016 Toyota Tacoma the Best All-Weather Midsize Truck at its annual awards ceremony held at MIT this week. The Tacoma beats out the Nissan Frontier, Chevy Colorado, and GMC Canyon to take the award this year.

In addition to being the nation’s top-selling midsize pickup for ten years straight, the newly designed 2016 Tacoma is tougher and now more modern. The NEMPA team took the Tacoma off-road at an event hosted by Toyota near the group’s headquarters this past fall. It proved to be very capable in all of its many configurations.

Torque News had a chance to test the 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-road in snow this winter, as did many NEMPA members. 4H provided all the traction that four-wheel drive vehicle needed to be sure-footed in snow. The Goodyear All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar tires were excellent in the snow as well, which helped with turning and stopping. We never needed crawl control, but it was there if we had.

Other Tacomas also benefit not just from optional 4WD, but a wise tire selection from Toyota. Wearing Firestone Destination LE2 tires we tested on a Jeep in snow, Tacomas are ready for all weather. Check out our full on-road review of the 2016 Tacoma or a hard-working review of the Tacoma at the farm for more on this very capable truck.
